Who needs to retake the driver's license test? (Class E Knowledge Exam)
FLORIDA SPECIFIC: In an effort to ensure that Florida drivers who have not operated a vehicle for one year or more stay informed of driving laws, some people are required to retest before a new driver's license can be issued.
You are required to retake the driver's license test (officially known as the Class E Knowledge Exam) as well as your vision test before you can obtain your Class E Driver's License in the following situations:
- Your Class E driver license has expired for one year or more, regardless of if it's due to a license sanction or downgrading to an identification card.
- You completed the Class E knowledge exam but did not apply to get your license issued within one year of the exam date.
- Your out-of-state driver's license has been expired for one year or more and you are applying for a Florida Class E driver's license.
Note: If you are 18 or older, you must complete the Class E Knowledge Exam in person at your local DMV.
