2. Practice Driving
- Must have supervised driving practice
- Under 18: Minimum of 50 hours or supervised driving practice
- At least 15 hours at night
- At least 10 hours in moderate/heavy traffic
- List of restrictions on where and when you can drive
- Find a driving school to practice supervised driving
3. Take a Pre-licensing Course
- Classroom Pre-Licensing Course
- Taken through a driving school, high school, or college in person
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Given MV-278 Pre-Licensing Course Completion Certificate
- Distance Learning/Virtual Classroom Pre-Licensing Course
- Taken through a driving school, high school, or college ad taught live, in real-time, using distance using technology
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Given MV-278 Pre-Licensing Course Completion Certificate
- Online Pre-Licensing Course
- Taken through an online course provider, self-paced
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Completion sent electronically within 48 hours of completing the course

4. Schedule and Take Your Road Test
- Classroom or Distance Learning/Virtual Classroom Pre-licensing Certificate
- Need an MV-278 Pre-Licensing Course Completion Certificate
- Online Pre-Licensing Course
- A certificate is NOT required. Completion is given electronically within 48 hours of completing the course
- Under 18: Have to wait at least 6 months from the date you received your permit
