How do I reinstate my license?

Depending on the type of license suspension that you have, there will be a different procedure that you must follow.  If you are trying to reinstate your license for anything other than a Twelve-Point Suspension or OVUAC Suspension, check the Ohio BMV Driver License Reinstatement Procedures for more information.

Twelve-Point Suspension

When you have accumulated 12 points on your driving record within a two-year period, you must meet the following requirements before your license can be reinstated:
  1. Complete a remedial course. Our online remedial course is approved by the BMV to meet this requirement.
  2. File FRA insurance in the form of an SR-22 or financial responsibility bond for a period of three years (Tip: Check with your insurance agent for help with this!)
  3. Pay a $40 reinstatement fee
  4. Retake a complete driver's license examination
Note: If you are being granted limited driving privileges by your court, you must meet these reinstatement requirements beforehand.

OVUAC - Operating a Vehicle After Underage Alcohol Consumption

If you were under the age of 21 and found guilty of driving with a prohibited alcohol content (.02-.07%) there may be reinstatement requirements that you need to meet if the court orders a license suspension.

In addition to fines and penalties issued by the court, you will be required to:
  1. Complete a remedial course. Our online remedial course is approved by the BMV to meet this requirement.
  2. Pay a $40 reinstatement fee
  3. Provide evidence of liability insurance currently in effect
  4. Retake a complete driver's license examination

Depending on your unique situation, you may have other requirements that you need to meet in order to have your license reinstated. Some may require you to complete a training program, while others may not. There are a variety of driver training programs that are required for different situations, and some situations which require no additional training at all. Be sure to check the Ohio BMV Driver License Reinstatement Procedures for the most accurate information for your case.
