1. What is the Florida DETS? / What is the 6-hour teen course?

Driver Education Traffic Safety (DETS) is a 6-hour course, approved by FLHSMV. This course is for any first-time driver under the age of 18. It covers important Florida traffic laws, rules of the road, and defensive driving strategies.

2. What is the course like?

Our class is fully narrated with fun activities and videos to make it more interesting, enjoyable, and memorable! Our virtual guide, Sam, will guide you through the course by reading each of the 6 chapters to you. You can sit back and relax through our stress-free course.

3. How much is the DETS course in Florida?

Our Florida DETS course runs for $34.99. However, we also offer bundles that will prepare you for the permit exam, as well as include the permit exam itself if you’re under 18. Check out our Teen Bundle and Adult Bundle.

4. How do I take the DETS?

You can take it all online with us. Take it around your schedule and take breaks in between whenever you want. You can also take it wherever you want because our course is mobile-friendly. If you have a smartphone, tablet, or laptop, then you can take the course on there!

5. Can I take the course online, and how old do I need to be to take the DETS course?

Yes! This course is available 100% online to anyone between 14 1/2 and 17 years old.

6. What is the DETS course like?

Our animated guide, SAM, reads the entire course for you. Together, you’ll watch videos and engage in activities. We are your FUN traffic school provider!

7. Do I have to take all 6 hours at once?

Nope! You can break up the 6 hours however you would like. There’s no need to rush through the material. If you stop the course, it will pick up right where you left off.

8. Is there a test?

Yes. There is a 40-question final exam at the end.

9. How many questions do I need to get right on the final exam?

You will need to get 32 questions correct to pass the test (80%).

10. What if I don’t pass the exam?

You are allowed a maximum of three attempts to pass the final exam. If you fail the exam on your third attempt, you will need to restart the course from the beginning.

Throughout the course you will be asked to answer Personal Validation Questions.
If you FAIL TO ANSWER any of these questions on the 1st attempt, YOU WILL FAIL THE COURSE, which means you need to RE-PURCHASE the course and start over.

11. What do I do after I pass the course?

Next, you will need to study for your permit exam. The Driver Education Traffic Safety (DETS) Course is completely separate from the permit exam and study material from the course will not prepare you for the learner's permit exam. We highly recommend that you study using our Florida Handbook Course and our Practice Test.

12. Is there a certificate of completion?

Yes. Your certificate will be available upon completion for free! This is for your own records. You do not have to bring a hard copy with you because we submit your completion automatically.


13. Are you guys approved by the DMV?

Yes! Too Cool Traffic School is 100% approved by the Florida DMV and by the state of Florida. See for yourself.

14. My name is spelled wrong on my certificate/something is wrong with my certificate.

If your name is spelled wrong or there is something incorrect on your certificate, then there are two things you need to do:

1. Submit a request on your account or give us a call so we can guide you on how to request a new certificate.
2. Pay a $5.00 fee for a new certificate that will be submitted to the state
